New Features in Windows Server 2008 R2

On March 15, 2011, Service Pack 1 (SP1) was released for Windows Server 2008 R2. There are nearly 1000 hotfixes in this service pack. You may have already installed these updates because SP1; We can say that it is a collection of updates distributed through Windows Update since Windows Server 2008 R2.

Some of the innovations included in SP1 are as follows:

  • Dynamic Memory: A feature developed for Hyper-V. Previously, the memory of the physical server was permanently allocated to the virtual servers. The allocated memory was then unavailable to any other virtual server. Memory space can now be shared between virtual servers. Thus, dynamic usage will be ensured and more virtual servers can be created on a single physical server. This feature is very important for those working in the field of virtualization. Because this feature increases efficiency while reducing costs.
  • Microsoft RemoteFX: It is a feature that improves the user experience on virtual computers. It provides the necessary infrastructure for applications that require three-dimensional interfaces, Silverlight and Flash on remote connections and virtual desktops. The direct use of USBs on virtual computers and the ability to play rich media content easily are the remarkable features of RemoteFX.
  • Improvements have been made to the redundancy and scalability features of DirectAccess.
  • MSA (Managed Service Accounts) support is provided for secure branch scenarios.
  • Made improvements to Failover Clustering using storage.
  • Improvements have been made to RRAS and IPsec.
  • Made improvements to AVX (Advanced Vector Extensions).
